Lions auction this Thursday and Friday night at courthouseBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, December 11, 2002 in the Nevada County Picayune It's time once again for the Prescott Lion's Club Auction. This year's auction will be held Dec. 12-13 in the Nevada County Courthouse, with proceeds used to fund projects by the club. Some of the items on sale at the auction were seen in the annual Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade Tuesday night. The rest can be seen in the courtroom prior to the auction. Jim Self is again donating his time to be the auctioneer, and this year's auction is shaping up to be one of the best ever. One of the major items up for bid this year will be a smoker built by the welding class of the University of Arkansas at Hope Community College. The money raised from last year's auction helped buy 10 pair of glasses for needy in the area. The club also donated $250 to the Artesian Arts League, $584 to the Nevada County Fair Association for the purchase of tables, $200 to the Chamber, $200 to the Economic Development Council, $200 to the Future Leaders of Nevada County, $300 to the Prescott Middle School Cheerleaders, $250 to the Prescott Baseball Association, $250 to the Girl Scouts, $100 to the Nevada County Health Alliance, $300 to the Emmet Cheerleaders, $200 to the First Presbyterian Preschool for supplies, two $500 scholarships for seniors in Nevada County schools, $500 to the FFA premium sale, $200 to the Nevada County Leadership Board, $100 to the PHS cheerleaders, $360 to Generation Next, and $500 to the Prescott Community Freenet Association. The club also donated courthouse lights in a memoriam, provided transportation to Mid-South Sight for free eye surgeries, operated a concession stand at the Nevada County Fair, operated a free food and concession stand at the Nevada County Health Fair, delivered Christmas baskets to nursing homes and needy families, with toys and clothing being delivered to needy families by Santa Lion.
