Plans underway for Chamber's annual Christmas paradeBY AUTUMN PENNINGTONPublished Wednesday, November 20, 2002 in the Gurdon Times Plans are underway for the 2002 Christmas in Gurdon. Members of the Gurdon Chamber of Commerce are working on plans for the parade, entertainment and community involvement. The festivities are scheduled for Friday, December 6. The parade is scheduled for 6 p.m., with singing on the bandstand in front of First State Bank taking place prior to the parade. Some scheduled entertainment includes: Christina Daniels, Kentrell House, the Gurdon High School Choir and several other local talents. The theme for this year's parade is "A Red, White and Blue Christmas". Floats entered in the parade are encouraged to follow the chosen theme. Since the scheduled parade time is 6 in the evening, the Chamber asks that the parade entries be decorated with lights. Also, no entries in the parade will be allowed to have a Santa Claus in any float, car, etc. The only Santa Claus will be on the Chamber of Commerce float. Anyone interested in entering the parade may pick up entry forms at the Gurdon Chamber of Commerce office. Entry forms must be turned back in by November 28. Prizes will be given for floats, vehicles and four wheeler/bicycle categories. In the float division, first prize wins $100; second, $50 and third place receives $25. In the vehicle division, first prize is $50, second is $25 and third is $15. In the four wheeler/bicycle division, first place receives $15, second $10 and third receives $5. The Gurdon Chamber of Commerce is also encouraging churches, clubs, youth groups, etc. to set up booths to sell coffee, hot chocolate, popcorn, cookies and other goods. Chamber officials say this would be a good fund-raising opportunity and a great way to support the town. For more information you may call (870) 353-4444.
