Mary Lou Capps

Mary Lou Capps, 83, of Gurdon, died Sunday, October 6, 2002.

Mrs. Capps was the owner of Austin's Department Store and the Gurdon Florist.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gurdon for 67 years were she served as an Elder and Clerk of Sessions, also serving as church organist for 50 years. She was active in the Gideon Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Gurdon Rotary Club, where she was a Paul Harris Award recipient. For 50 years she was in charge of the youth Bible lessons at the Davidson Camp Ground. She was active in the Gurdon CD&E Club and she was also, the organist at Horne Funeral Home.

Survivors include her loving husband, Austin Capps; her sons, Dr. James Austin Capps, Jr. and wife, Judy of Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, Dr. William Roy Capps and wife, Vera Elizabeth of LaEsperanz, Honduras; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 9, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Rick Pryon and Rev. Jack Ryan officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Interment in Rose Hedge Cemetery by Horne Funeral Home of Gurdon.
