Plans for the Gurdon Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade are underway.

The Gurdon Chamber of Commerce met on Tuesday, October 8, in the First State Bank board room.

At last month's Chamber meeting it was decided to hold the Christmas parade on December 6.

Members also decided to not sell Christmas t-shirts this year, but still have a coloring contest at the primary school for the best depiction of the parade theme. However, a theme was not decided on at that time and was put on hold until the October meeting.

"I really liked the idea of a red, white and blue Christmas," said Theresa Hayes.

After a short discussion by the group a it was decided to make the theme "A Red, White and Blue Christmas".

Now that a theme has been chosen the Chamber will inform the primary school students of the theme and ask them to submit an 8 = X 11 drawing on white paper. These entries will then be displayed at Gurdon places of business.

Members of the Chamber will be encouraged to place sign-up boxes in their business to give away prizes the day of the parade.

Autumn Pennington is in charge of finding local talent to perform on the band stand before the parade begins. If you are interested please call (870) 353-4008 or (870) 230-2142.

Tommy Potter recently talked to Blaine Smith with the Arkadelphia Chamber of Commerce about posting Gurdon rental property, residential and commercial, inside the Arkadelphia Chamber office for everyone to see.

Potter also talked about getting Gurdon put in the Diamond Lakes Publication.

In this publication would be a driving tour of places around Gurdon to visit, it would highlight the Hoo-Hoo Museum, the Forest Festival and the Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade.

Anyone with other suggestions to be places in the publication can call Tommy Potter, Laurie Pilgreen or Theresa Hayes.
