McClinton Charged with possession of crack after disturbance callBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, October 9, 2002 in the Nevada County Picayune John McClinton, 23, of Prescott, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, namely crack cocaine. According to court records, Prescott Police officers Ann Jordan and Danny Martin were sent to the Hale Ave. Apartments on a disturbance call. When the officers arrived they saw several people in the parking lot. Once the officers were noticed, those in the lot began to leave. Jordan was able to identify Johnny Sorrells and McClinton, who was standing next to an apartment wall with his back to the officers. She saw him take something from his pants pocket and toss to the ground. According to records, Jordan saw a plastic bag containing an whitish-looking substance. Once McClinton allegedly tossed the bag down, he started to leave and Sorrells picked the baggy up, putting it in his pocket. Jordan asked Sorrells for the bag, but he denied having it and refused to comply with the officer. Sorrells eventually relented and gave Jordan the bag, which contained several pieces of an off-white substance believed to be crack. McClinton was arrested and charged with possession. In this instance, it is a class C felony, punishable by 3-10 years in prison and a fine not to exceed $25,000. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
