Gurdon's City Council held a special meeting on Wednesday, September 25 in order to discuss closing a street to build a new housing facility.

Pine Ridge Manor Inc. requested meeting with the council to see what might be able to be done to close an unconstructed street located near Deer Creek Street in the Dodi Edition of Gurdon.

The street in question is located right where board members of Pine Ridge Manor Inc. are planning to start a 202 HUD (Housing and Urban Devevlopment) property complex.

Board members include, Randy Weems, President, Jerry Hilton, Vice President, Sam Blackmon, Secretary, Billy Joe Arnold, Harrison Bailey and Edward Collins. All board members, some of which are from Gurdon, decided the 202 HUD complex was what Gurdon needed.

"The complex will have 16 units and is strictly for the elderly," said attorney Travis Berry, "It doesn't matter if you have substantial assets or if you have none, the only requirement is being a senior citizen."

The HUD 202 Complex is being managed by Harrington Properties.

Recently several apartments were built next to were the HUD complex is to be built. This complex is for low income families only. It is totally based on income. In some cases residents may only pay 1/3 of the rent and the government would pay the rest. Some renters would not pay any rent. This property is managed by Bunn Properties.

After a brief discussion with the council, a motion was made by Danny Paull and seconded by Rev. Scott, to close the unconstructed street and allow the Pine Ridge Manor Inc. continue with it's project.

Gurdon Mayor Clayton Franklin said he was tickled to see the group building in Gurdon and felt it was good for the community.
