Emmet discusses West Nile VirusBY MARY LEEPublished Wednesday, August 21, 2002 in the Nevada County Picayune Discussion of the West Nile virus was among the few things discussed at the Emmet City Council meeting. The Emmet City Council met Wednesday, August 14 with Mayor Dale Booker residing. The council began by accepting the resignation of an employee of the city of Emmet. The council approved the resignation and gave Booker permission to hire a replacement for the hours that he felt was necessary for the city of Emmet. Booker told the council that more clean up was planned around town along with the continuing construction of first street. He stated also that several citizens had been calling him asking what the city could do about mosquitoes. Apparently some citizens are worried about the West Nile Virus that has been reported in Louisiana. Booker stated that the Department of Health was called and they informed him that good house cleaning was the answer to keeping mosquitoes away. Booker said that the Department of Health would be sending a packet with information to be passed along to citizens informing them of the dangers of mosquitoes. The council decided not to plan spraying in the community due to fear of worrying people who may not think spraying is safe. The council agreed to send information out to citizens as soon as the information from the health department arrives. Booker stated that he has been reviewing the condition of the sewer pumps and feels that one may be on the edge of breaking down. He informed the council that he would try to repair the pump if it goes out instead of replacing it. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
