Gurdon City Marshall Don Childers said he was looking forward to school starting back up.

"I have been a police officer for 17 years," Childers said. "During this time I have never seen so many kids getting into trouble. I blame this problem on three things.

"First of all the parents just aren't keeping up with their kids.

"Second of all parents are out working and the kids are running the streets. I know it takes both parents working to make it these days, that is inevitable.

"Last I believe the kids just don't have anything to do here in Gurdon. They get bored and start looking for things to do."

Childers made this statement after several arrest have been made on minors in the past few weeks.

On August 8, Corey Marsh was arrested for sexual assault in the second degree. This is a Class B felony. Marsh had forced sexual contact with a 12-year-old Gurdon female.

In the last two months alone the Gurdon Police Department has made nine different arrests on subjects for burglaries within the city limits. The burglaries ranged from businesses, schools, churches and several residences. The ages of the subjects arrested ranged from 24-14 years of age.
