Despite the unbearable heat, Gurdon's nine- and ten-year-old All-Star baseball team managed to bring home another trophy this season.

Larry Thomerson, one of the team's coaches, displays the teams new trophy along with last year's trophy in his drug store.

"I wasn't sure the boys had it in them this year, but they have really played hard and brought home the district trophy again," said Thomerson.

The team finished the year being the undefeated District 1A champions, having number one seed in the State Tournament, being the state semi-finalist and having an overall record of 6-2 in tournament play.

During the district tournament the boys faced up against Bismarck, Fordyce and Bearden whom they defeated. In the final tournament game they faced Fordyce once again to show them who the real winners were.

During the state tournament the boys lost their first game against Western Benton County. However, they went on to beat Walnut Ridge and Pine Bluff Western.

Western Benton County turned out to defeat the nine- and ten-year-old All-Star team in the last game of the state semi-finals.

However, this did not bring this team down they had already been named as the District 1A champs and played well during the state finals.

Team members were, Kyle Orsburn, Adam Clark, Drew Griffin, Asher Griffin, Briar Calley, Jared Shaver, Dillon Maxwell, Brandon Smillie, C.J. Williams, Anthony Loudermilk and Keonta' McClelland.

Coaches for the team were, Brad Clark, Ricky Griffin, Larry Thomerson, Steven Orsburn and David Maxwell.
