Leavitt arrested on felony charges

A Prescott man has been arrested

for breaking and entering into several vehicles parked in residential areas.

Ronnie Leavitt, 26, was arrested for a class D felony and a class A misdemeanor, breaking and entering and theft of property.

According to court records, officer Ann Jordan, of the Prescott Police Department, was dispatched to the residence of Cleve Barfield.

When Jordan arrived she met Barfield with Leavitt laying on the ground. Barfield said he had noticed the motion detection light outside his home was on. He looked outside and saw a white male bent over his daughter's vehicle. He stopped the person, identified as Ronnie Leavitt, and remained with him until police arrived.

Leavitt allegedly said he had taken $2-4 from the car.

Leavitt was read his rights and asked to give a statement. Leavitt sad he had taken money from unlocked vehicles in several homes in the area. He reported stealing from homes on Cedar, Manor, Martin, Sherwood, Friar Tuck, and Marion Streets in the past few weeks, and added he had also raided vehicles on Oak and Cedar streets in the recent past.

Leavitt allegedly said he only took money from the vehicles but could not remember how much he had taken.

Leavitt was taken to the Nevada County Detention Facility where he will face charges on a class D felony.

A class D felony is punishable by imprisonment not to exceed six years and/or a fine not to exceed $10,000.
