More money will be appropriated to Emmet roads.

Emmet's City Council met Wednesday, July 10 to go over the monthly business.

Emmet Mayor Dale Booker presided over the meeting, updating members of the council of past minutes and requesting only one thing, more money for road construction.

Booker said several streets in Emmet are being repaired and resealed. Booker announced East First Street is already under construction and warned citizens of fresh oil on the street in the next few weeks.

He said if possible, an alternate route should be taken. The street will be resealed with gravel to make a 10-inch base. Most of the money used for the road construction is coming from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) fund. FEMA granted money to Emmet for ice storm damage.

Booker said asphalt in two locations will also be repaired. The road construction, along with the new road signs, will require $5,800 to the road fund. The council approved the additional money with no opposing vote.

The council also discussed the water system. Booker said the system was doing fine with no real problems.

Booker told the council two fire hydrants had been leaking but they were now fixed.

Booker also said the walking trail was coming along. The trail will be one quarter of a mile long.

Dick Snell, councilman, addressed the council on the need for more speed limit signs. He said he had noticed several people speeding in the Emmet area.

He also addressed the need for regulation on the four-wheelers being driven on the main roads.

The council then met in executive session, the members discussed a personnel matter, but no decision was made.
