Projects underwayBY AUTUMN PENNINGTONPublished Wednesday, July 17, 2002 in the Gurdon Times Gurdon's Chamber of Commerce met at Art and Mary's for the July meeting. The Clean-up Gurdon Project committee reported turning in the first 10 abandoned houses to be torn down and cleaned up. Gurdon Mayor Clayton Franklin will now take the list and begin the clean-up process. The projects main goal is to improve the appearance of the city. Chamber members also discussed the success of the Gurdon Fourth of July fireworks show. Plans are being made by everyone involved in this year's show, to hold another show next year. A welcome to Gurdon sign is still in the works. At this time it is unclear where the sign will be located. Chamber President Laurie Pilgreen recently spoke with William Norman about the Chamber purchasing the empty lot next to the Curiosity Shop and developing the area for a welcome area. Norman said he would think about it and see what he could do. Members discussed what could be placed on the vacant lot. Some of the ideas included a mural on the buildings wall, some fountains and the display sign. More information should be gathered by the next Chamber meeting.
