Dog problem continuingBY AUTUMN PENNINGTONPublished Tuesday, July 2, 2002 in the Gurdon Times In the past few months several Gurdon citizens have complained about the number of loose dogs roaming the streets. Gurdon Mayor Clayton Franklin listened to several citizens speak about the problem during several of the City's council meetings. Franklin assured the citizens the problem would hopefully be taken care of once the city's new pound was completed. The pound now is up and running, but it is running over. Dogs picked up are kept for five days at the facility to allow the owner to reclaim the animal or for someone to adopt it. If neither of these is done in that time then the animal is put to sleep by the Gurdon Animal Control Officer Carroll Martin. Martin has picked up a number of dogs in the past few weeks and has had many of them reclaimed or adopted. If you have a dog and live within the Gurdon City Limits, then it is a good idea to keep your dog in a pen, on a chain or leashed at all times. Your dog must also have proper vaccinations.
