Nick system in worksBY AUTUMN PENNINGTONPublished Tuesday, July 2, 2002 in the Gurdon Times Parents having a child(ren) 12 years of age or younger, then will want to participate in the Morgan Nick alert system. As most of remember, Morgan Nick, was a little girl abducted from a baseball field in Alma. Morgan's whereabouts are still unknown and almost no clues were left for police. Since Morgan's abduction, her mother has made it her goal to find a new and faster way to alert people statewide of abducted children. Morgan's mom has said several times, "Timing is everything when a child is abducted. The quicker the response and alert of proper authorities, the better the chances of a safe return are." As part of the program, fingerprints of child(ren) are taken for police record, a photo card is made and personal information gathered to help police properly identify children. It is not exactly known when the program will be in Gurdon, however, sometime in early August a day will be set aside at the Methodist Church of Gurdon for parents to bring their children and register them. Troy Tucker, Clark County Sheriff, and several of his deputies have agreed to come and assist in the program. Tucker said he would like to do the fingerprinting and DNA testing for all children involved. Refreshments are planned to be on site for children participating.
