Indecent letters given to childrenBY AUTUMN PENNINGTONPublished Wednesday, June 26, 2002 in the Gurdon Times Gurdon Police arrested 58-year-old Jimmy Ross Welch on Thursday, June 20 at his home. Welch lived in a house on 700 East Beech Street in Gurdon. City Marshal Don Childers had received several complaints from residents living in the area claiming Welch was harassing people and people were doing likewise to Welch. On Monday, June 17, Childers sat and watched as a 12-year-old girl walked to the window of Welch's house. The girl then took a note from the window sill. As the girl walked away from the house, Childers approached her and she gave him the letter. The girl then turned over several other letters that Welch had recently written to her. The letters all contained explicit and obscene details. Childers received a warrant for Welch on Thursday. Childers and other officers from the GPD then went to Welch's residence where he was apprehended and charged with sexual indecency with a child.
