Barnes arrested for possession

Since Gurdon's drug raid back in January, Gurdon Police officers have continued to work on the city's drug problem.

During the raid in January a warrant was issued for Andre Barnes, but Barnes was no where to be found.

Barnes had already been arrested on October 4, 2001, for possession of marijuana.

Gurdon Police officers received information recently Barnes was back in Gurdon and was reportedlyl hiding out at a residence on Seahorn Street.

Members of the GPD entered the residence and found Barnes hiding under a bed.

Barnes has been charged with delivery of a controlled substance, crack cocaine, and delivery of a controlled substance in a drug free zone.

The delivery of crack cocaine is a Class Y felony and is punishable by 10-40 years imprisonment or life.

Delivering drugs in a drug free zone is a Class B felony and serves a time of no less than 10 years imprisonment and no more than 40 years to life. It can also carry a fine of no more than $25,000.

City Marshal, Don Childers said, "We are working hard to clean up Gurdon. We have already removed 20 dealers from the streets of Gurdon just this year."
