Drugs found in shoes on pair of suspectsBY MARY LEEPublished Wednesday, June 19, 2002 in the Nevada County Picayune Two Camden residents were recently charged with drug possession when dugs were found hidden in their shoes. According to court records, Ketrick Malcolm, 22, of Camden, and Bryan Barker, 22, also of Camden, were arrested for two class "C" felonies, possession of a controlled substance, namely marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Nevada County Sheriff Steve Otwell made a traffic stop for speeding on Highway 278. The driver, Carleen Morris, was driving 75 mph in a 55 mph zone. Otwell reviewed the licence for Morris and discovered a warrant for her arrest in Lafayette County. Morris was then placed under arrest and was asked for consent to search her vehicle. Malcolm and Barker were still in the vehicle and were asked to exit the car while Deputy Danny Martin performed the search. When the search was completed Martin asked the subjects who owned the green leafy substance believed to be marijuana he had found in the car. Both subjects denied ownership and both were placed under arrest. The three subjects were then transported to the Nevada County Sheriff's Office. A search for weapons and contraband at the facility found Malcolm possessing two bags of what was believed to be marijuana hidden in his right shoe. Martin stated in the report, Malcolm admitted ownership to the marijuana in the car. During Barker's search a two-and-a-half inch knife was discovered in his right boot along with a large plastic bag containing eight small bags of what was believed to be marijuana in the sole of his left boot. Possession of a controlled substance is a class "C" felony with no less than three years and no more than 10 years imprisonment and a fine not to exceed $10,000. This was Malcolm's third possession offense, according to court records. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
