Spring didn't last long in Southwest Arkansas, as the mercury climbed quickly during the month of May.

According to local weather watcher Phillip McAdams, the highest temperature recorded in May was 87, and this on May 1.

Cale meteorologist Davis Benton said the high topped out at 92 in the south part of Nevada County.

McAdams said the lowest temperature recorded was 45, on May 19, in Prescott.

Benton said the mercury dipped to 49 in Cale.

The average daily high, according to McAdams was 77, with the average daily low being 57 for the month.

And it was wet during May. McAdams said the Prescott area received 6.88 inches of rain, while Benton recorded 7.28 inches in Cale.

Benton said this brings the annual total to 25.42 inches, which is about five inches above normal for this time of year.

McAdams said quarter-inch hail was reported on May 26, though surrounding areas reported heavier rain and larger hail at different times during the month.
