Daniell outss Manning in racePublished Wednesday, May 29, 2002 in the Gurdon TimesClark County will have a new judge as of January 1, 2003, as Floyd "Buddy" Manning was unseated by Ron Daniell in the May 21, primary elections. Nearly half of all Clark County voters cast ballots in Tuesday's primary election, returning three incumbent justices of the peace to their offices and defeating the county's two-term county judge. According to county election statistics, 5,270 of 12,159 registered voters cast ballots in Tuesday's election, some by early voting and some by absentee ballots. A crowd in the district courtroom watched as the county's voting machine cranked out election results virtually without a hitch. Clark County Judge Buddy Manning was defeated by challenger Ron Daniell in his bid for a third term. Incumbent JPs Orville Buck, John Howard and Jim Hatley will return to the Clark County Quorum Court. Buck, who had represented JP District 8, won election to the court from JP District 6, because of redistricting. He defeated Jerry Johnson by a vote of 466 to 123. JP Jim Hatley, representing JP District 9, had the closest race of the evening, defeating challenger Vickie Smithpeters by a scant four votes. In other county offices, Kasey Summerville and Wanda Knight will square off in a June 11 runoff election for Clark County assessor. Summerville tallied 46.3 percent of the vote (2,313 votes) with Knight placing second with 29.04 percent (1,451 votes) of the ballot total. Diane Wingfield was third with 24.6 percent (1,231 votes) of the votes cast. In the race for Clark County circuit clerk, Penny Ross defeated Karen Jones by a vote of 2,810 to 2,067.
