Prescott still seeking superintendentBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, May 15, 2002 in the Nevada County Picayune While the search for a new superintendent and head football coach continues, Prescott High School does have a new principal. In a special called meeting of the Prescott School Board Thursday, May 9, the board has offered a contract to Carroll Purtle as PHS principal, pending his being released as superintendent of the Bradley School District. Rick McGough, board president, said the board interviewed candidates for superintendent and the head coaching job, but have reached no conclusion. Were trying to come up with the best of the best, he said. We interviewed three people for superintendent and narrowed it down to one. Were now checking on references. However, McGough pointed out the board is also looking at the finalists from the first round of the superintendent search, which resulted in Sherry Holliman being hired, only to resign less than a week later because of family problems. Were still receiving applications, McGough said, even though the deadline has passed. We want to make a decision as quickly as possible, but not hurry and get the wrong person. We have someone we feel good about. The board, he said, has been spending most of its time working to find a new superintendent, while the coaching position has been put on hold, so to speak. But, even though the board wants to hire a superintendent first, it did interview five coaching applicants during the meeting as well. The board has 20-30 resumes on tap for coaches. We want someone wholl be here for the long haul, McGough said of the coaching prospects. Weve looked at people all over the state and received applications from Texas. Were trying to make this an opportunity to do better and go from there. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
