Four heading to Boys StateBY AUTUMN PENNINGTONPublished Wednesday, May 8, 2002 in the Gurdon Times Roger Keith Reed is the 17-year-old son of Gene and Cheryl Reed. He is a junior at Gurdon High School, where he is a member of the Beta Club and National Honor Society. Reed also participates in baseball and plays the saxophone in the band. He is a member of the Beech Street Baptist Church and attends "Thirsty Thursdays" at Sycamore Baptist Church. After high school, Reed plans to attend the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where he plans to major in Pharmacy or Chemical Engineering and continue playing baseball. Cody Quillin is the 16-year-old son of Gayla Loy and Ronald Quillin. He has two sisters, Cassie and Kayla Quillin and one brother, Dillon Loy. He is currently part of the Gurdon High School Top 10 and Beta Club. His future plans include finishing high school and continuing his education at college. Jake Plyler is the 17-year-old son of Gary and Wendy Plyler. He is a junior at Gurdon High School and an honor student. Plyler is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Beta Club and has played football for the Gurdon Go-Devils as a starter for the past five years. He is a three-year letterman for the GHS baseball team and also on the senior high track team. Plyler is a member of Beech Street Baptist Church, where he is very active in the youth group. He has been a Vacation Bible School recreation leader for the past four years, and has served as a Children's Camp counselor. He attended Mission Fuge in Mobile, Alabama two years and last summer he with Beech Street's Mission Gurdon Project, and is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. John R. Watson is the 16-year-old son of Johnny Watson and Sharon Blake. He is a member of the Beta Club and Student Council, where he is a class representative. He is a member of Roanoke Baptist Church. He also attends "Thirsty Thursday" at Sycamore Baptist Church. He is also a member of the football and track team. After completing high school he plans on attending college.
