Gladys Samuel

Gladys Burke Samuel, 92, of DeAnn died on April 23, 2002.

Born on November 7, 1909, at DeAnn, she was a daughter of Williams H. and Winnie Ola Clark Burke.

She was given a certificate of merit in 1996 from the Arkansas Extension Service for 50 years of service to the association. She was a member of the DeAnn Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school, was a communion steward and held numerous offices.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton R. Samuel.

Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Samuel Sikes of Hope; a son, Michael Samuel of DeAnn; a brother, Irvin Burke of Hope; a sister, Caudie Mann of Arkadelphia; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Chapel services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, at Herndon Funeral Home, with Rev. Paul Lyons, Rev. Rodney Patterson and Rev. Jim Henderson officiating. Burial was in White Oak Grove Cemetery.

Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 29 at the funeral home.
