Jewel StuartPublished Wednesday, May 1, 2002 in the Nevada County PicayuneJewel Stuart, 100, the youngest daughter of a pioneer Arkansas family, passed away Sunday morning, April 21, at 9:45, at Heritage Duval Gardens, in Austin, Texas, where she had been a resident for many years. Stuart was the only surviving child of nine children. Her parents were James Lawrence Stuart and Ella Coleman Stuart. She was born in Prescott, on February 14, 1902, and moved with her family to Lamesa, Texas, and to the dry West Texas climate to ease her father's suffering with tuberculosis. Stuart, a very gentle, much loved lady, never married. Stuart had three sisters and five brothers, including longtime Little Rock resident Henry Grady Stuart. Stuart was buried between her father and her sister, Rosa Lee Stuart, in Lames, on Monday, April 22, following graveside services at 2 p.m. She is survived by a nephew and eight nieces, including her niece Margaret Stuart Brigman of Little Rock, plus many great-great-great-nieces and nephews.
