Well fixed; grants soughtBY MARY LEEPublished Wednesday, April 17, 2002 in the Nevada County Picayune Emmet's City Council meeting was little more than updates from the mayor. In its regular monthly meeting, held Wednesday, April 10, the council was told the second well is back in operation after being struck by lightning. Emmet Mayor Dale Booker said the control mechanism had been burned out and it cost the city about $500 to repair. In addition, Booker said the ditch work has been finished, with the dirt being left at the railroad tracks until it dries. Once the dirt is dry, it will be used to fill part of the proposed walking track in the Emmet park. Emmet City Secretary Frank Faulkner is working on a grant for the park's walking track, Booker said. Faulkner is also working on a grant to help the city build another fire station building on the other side of the tracks. At this time, Booker said, all the city and council can do is wait and see what happens with the grant applications. The Emmet Volunteer Fire Department's new truck is operational, Booker said. The firemen built the new truck, using the chassis from a 1995 Mack truck the department had purchased. The old truck will be converted into a tanker, which will be able to transport about 2,500 gallons of water to fire scenes. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
