N.B. Coleman

N.B. (Benny) Coleman, 81, of Hope, died April 8, in Hope.

He was a retired vice-president for the Hempstead and Nevada Counties Farm Credit offices for 30 years before retiring.

He was born December 12, 1920, in Howard County, was instrumental in organizing and developing the Hempstead County Farm Bureau, Hempstead County Cattlemen's Association, and the Hempstead County Farmers Association, served as secretary-treasurer of the Guernsey Volunteer Fire Department for 11 years. He was a member of the Hope Rotary Club and was a recipient of the Paul Harris award. He was a WWII Veteran and University of Arkansas graduate. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hope for over 50 years.

He was the son of Joe A. and Amanda McInturff Coleman.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include: his wife, Lucy Coleman; one son, Kenneth and wife, Marlyn of Reno, Nev.; three daughters, Kathryn and husband, Denny Dickinson of Hope, Kay and husband, Mike Caldwell of Hope, Karlene Hooker of Mena; two brothers, Bob Coleman of Nashville, Virgil Coleman of Texarkana; seven grandchildren, Casey Harden of Little Rock, Korie Caldwell of Conway, Mandy Beck Fulmer of Baton Rouge, La., Rusty Beck of Little Rock, Brent Hooker of Mena, Deedra Hooker of Mena, Jan McKinnon of Hope; two great-grandchildren, Bradley and Jordan McKinnon of Hope and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held at First Baptist Church of Hope, Thursday, April 11, at 2 p.m. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Wade Hood and Rev. Earl Cumbie officiating under the direction of Herndon Funeral Home.

Visitation was Wednesday, April 10, from 5-8 p.m. at Herndon Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arkansas Arthritis Foundation, P.O. Box 469, Little Rock, Ark. 72203 or the First Baptist Church of Hope.
