One of the two candidates for Mayor has an outstanding warrant for their arrest and it's not for the incumbent.

According to court records, Mary J. Gulley, who is running against Prescott Mayor Howard Taylor, has a warrant for her arrest for failure to pay fines.

Records show she was arrested on Sept. 20, 2001 for driving while intoxicated and simple possession of a controlled substance, namely marijuana.

Gulley, 47, was fined a total of $1,765 for the offenses, and paid $190. She still owes, according to court records, $1,575. Because the fines haven't been paid, a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Nevada County Clerk employees said Gulley paid the $750 filing fee in cash.

There are several other contested races for the May 21, primary.

So far, though, no one has filed for the office of Nevada County Judge other than incumbent James Roy Brown.

Julie Stockton is also alone in the race for Nevada County Clerk.

Gary Hicks is again challenging Nevada County Sheriff Steve Otwell, who is seeking his fourth term in office.

No one had filed for the position of Nevada County Coroner by Friday, March 29.

For Justice of the Peace on the Nevada County Quorum Court, Gary Lewis is unopposed in District 1, with no one having filed in District 2.

Danny Miller and Donny McGuire are running for District 3, with Curtis Lee Johnson unopposed in District 4.

Bob Cummings is being challenged by Tom Cornelius in District 5, while Leo Holleman has no opposition in District 6.

Myrna Waters is running against incumbent Adron Hicks in District 7, with Arval Mason unchallenged in District 8 and George Clary unopposed in District 9.

Carolyn Steed is unopposed for the position of Nevada County Circuit Clerk.

Pam Box, Nevada County Assessor, and Karen Cobb, Nevada County Treasurer, have no challengers for their positions.

The race with the most candidates, oddly enough, is for constable of the Missouri Township. Four men are seeking this unpaid position. They are: Gurvis Fore, Steve Jackson, Frank Sheets and Michael L. Goodwin.

For constable of the Caney Township, Danny Martin is unopposed.

However, for the constable position in Emmet, incumbent James Osborn is being challenged by Tom Hand.

Thomas Cue Johnson is running for constable of the Boughton Township.

Turning to offices in the City of Prescott, Sandy Cason is seeking office as City Recorder.

In the alderman races, Billy House is running for ward 1 position 1, while Larry Baker is running for ward 1, position 2.

Howard Austin is seeking reelection in ward 2, position 1, with Karen Ward running again for ward 3 position 1 and Ann Stockton running for ward 3 position 2.

James Roy Cornelius is seeking the spot in ward 4, position 2, with Danny Beavert is running for ward 2, position 2.

This was list of filings as of Friday, March 30. The deadline to file for office was Tuesday, April 2.
