Senior health fair successful

A Senior Health Fair was held Tuesday, March 12, at the Gurdon Senior Adult Center.

The event was sponsored by National Park Medical Center, the Gurdon Senior Adult Center and Senior Specialists Agency on Aging.

The health fair started at 8:30 a.m. and lasted until 11 a.m. During that time around 85-90 senior's participated in the fair.

Each vendor brought a door prize with them. As the senior's visited each booth, they were able to register for the prize.

Prizes included gift certificates, blood pressure cuffs, flower baskets and several other items.

Vendors on hand included the Central Arkansas Development Center/Headstart, Wal-Mart Pharmacy, Ouachita Baptist University sponsored Foster Grandparents, Senior Specialists, Charles Bullard with the 9-1-1 service, Arkansas Eye Surgery and Horne Funeral Home.

Seniors were given the opportunity to have their blood sugar and blood pressure checked, along with an eye exam and several other tests.

Seniors are encouraged to join the Arkadelphia Health Fair to be held April 23. Seniors can monitor their progress from now until then and determine whether they should see a physician.

Center Director Charlotte Shepherd said, "I believe the fair was very successful and was a perfect opportunity to high light our center. We really appreciate the seniors in our community who make our center and we also appreciate the members of the community for their support."
