Star City took the lead early in the final stanza, and held on throughout the last eight minutes, as the bucket trading continued.

Lake Village had a chance to steal the win, but missed a shot with 3.3 seconds left.

Star City hit 10 of 18 from the line, while the Lady Beavers were six of nine.

Maddox led the Lady Dogs with 19, with McDonald adding 13.

Andrea McJoy led the Lady Beavers with 11. Latrice Joy scored 10.

In Thursday's first round senior boys action, McGehee eliminated Mena from going to the state tourney 70-55 in overtime.

The Owls led 15-13 at the end of one and 28-26 by halftime. This changed in the third, as McGehee put some distance between the squads with a 42-37 lead.

Mena's Bearcats fought back and managed to overcome a 47-40 deficit with 6:04 showing to take the lead and build it to a 52-48 advantage with 2:05 left.

The problem is the Bearcats went into a stall to protect the lead instead of sticking with what had gotten them ahead to begin with.

The Owls tied the game with 23 seconds left.

Mena managed to steal the ball and get fouled with 11 seconds showing, but missed both free throws.

Regulation ended with the score tied at 52-52.

McGehee jumped all over Mena in the four-minute overtime, outscoring the Cats 18-3 to capture the win.

Free throws wound up being Mena's downfall as the Cats only hit three of 10. McGehee netted nine of 15 from the line.

Powell led the Owls with 25 points in the game. Kelvin Briscoe added 18, with Brian Copeland scoring 11.

Mena was paced by Jared White's 25. Damon Miller and Daniel Pate scored 11 each.

In Thursday's girl's game, Fordyce eliminated Bismarck 56-39.

The Lady Bugs led 15-6 at the end of one, and 27-16 at the half.

Nothing changed but the score in the second half, as Fordyce led 37-28 at the end of three.

Cacey Smith and Yvonne Morris scored 12 each for Fordyce.

Ashley Prault led Bismarck with 12.

Other action on the second day saw the Lady Beavers of Lake Village send Nashville home 68-34 in girls action, while De Queen ousted Dermott 64-55.

The tourney opened Wednesday, Feb. 20, with Star City eliminating De Queen's senior girls 46-43, and Warren escaping Fountain Lake's Lady Cobras 50-49.

Hamburg sent Bismarck's senior boys to spring sports with a 68-47 win.

The Wolves opened the tourney having to come from behind to beat Warren 60-59.

Prescott trailed almost from the outset, as the Lumberjacks took an 18-11 lead at the end of one.

The Jacks extended their lead in the second quarter as Prescott was unable to score from the field.

Halftime arrived with Warren leading 33-22.

Prescott fought back in the third quarter, getting back to the style of play the Wolves had been successful with all season.

Several times during the period the Wolves managed to cut the lead to two, but were unable to get over the hump and take full control of the contest.

The quarter ended with Warren holding a 49-43 lead.

The Wolves turned it up in the final eight minutes, knowing a loss would end their season.

Prescott scored first to cut the lead to 49-45, with the Wolves in the one-and-one with 7:37 to go.

Warren battled, but wound up seeing Prescott tie the game, 55-55, with 3:30 left.

Fulks gave Prescott a 56-55 lead by hitting a free throw with 1:52 to go.

Warren responded with a bucket to go up 57-55.

The final minute of this game was not for the faint of heart, as the lead changed hands back and forth, almost literally until the last buzzer.

Prescott led 58-57 with 53 seconds showing, with Warren taking a 59-58 lead with 32 ticks remaining on the clock.

The Wolves managed a final basket in the final 10 seconds to go up 60-59.

Warren had a chance to win in the final second, as the Jacks had the ball under their basket. The shot was blocked, giving the Wolves the win.

When the ball fell harmlessly to the hardwood, Prescott fans erupted, filling "Little Bud" with cheers for the Wolves.

Prescott will open play in the state tournament at Beebe High School Thursday at 2:30 p.m., as the Wolves play the third place team from the Region III tourney.
