A 22-year-old Shreveport man has been arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, with intent to deliver.

According to court records, Arkansas State Trooper Darren Neal made a routine traffic stop at the 49 mile marker on Interstate 30 on a 2002 Dodge with no license plate.

As he approached, Neal detected the odor of burning marijuana. Both people in the car had glazed, bloodshot eyes and their speech was slurred.

Neal identified both men, and had them get out of the car. He saw marijuana ashes on the car seat when they did.

John Liles didn't have any identification on him, and said his mother had rented the car for him. Damon Holliday, 21, of Greenwood, La., had his ID and was driving at the time.

Both men, were unsteady on their feet as they got out of the car.

According to the reports, Neal had probable cause to search the car and found two bags of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana weighing about a pound and a half each.

The two were placed under arrest and taken to the Nevada County jail.

Liles was charged with possession with intent to deliver, a class C felony with a possible sentence of 4-10 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections, and a fine not to exceed $10,000.

Holliday was also charged with possession with intent to deliver, along with driving while intoxicated.
