Playground equipment to be boughtBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, January 30, 2002 in the Nevada County Picayune Prescott's City Park will be seeing some new playground equipment in the near future. According to Mary Godwin, executive director of the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce, the city will receive a grant for $25,000 from the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism to purchase new playground equipment for the park. The grant, written by the Chamber through its Beautification Committee, is a 50-50 match, meaning the city must come up with $25,000 as well. Godwin said the city's part is already in hand. The grant, she said, was written and approved in 2001, but the state didn't have its part of the money at the time. The next step is to pick out the equipment. Godwin said it will be done for different levels of children depending on their age. The equipment will also be handicap accessible. A picnic table and park benches will also be bought with grant funds. Some of the equipment, she said, will be playground sculptures, which are animals on springs children can ride. It is hoped the equipment can be bought and installed by summer, but everything will depend on how long it takes to get the equipment delivered.
