Nominations sought for teacher, citizen by ChamberBY AUTUMN PENNINGTONPublished Wednesday, January 30, 2002 in the Gurdon Times It's time again for Gurdon resident's to vote for teacher of the year and citizen of the year. The winners will be presented with these honors at the Gurdon Chamber of Commerce Banquet scheduled for February 19. To vote for your favorite teacher or citizen you must write a letter explaining why you believe this person deserves the honor. Then send the letter to the Gurdon Chamber of Commerce at P.O. Box 187 Gurdon, Ark., 71743. The letters must reach the office by 9 a.m. on February 4th. The Chamber of Commerce will also announce the Chamber member of the year. This award is decided upon by the Chamber's board members. The Chamber is excited to have Janet Huckabee as the guest speaker this year. Huckabee is the first lady of the State of Arkansas. She is also a very distinguished lady who involves herself with several fundraisers and works hard to better Arkansas benefits for children. Huckabee is also an alumnus of Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia. The Chamber feels lucky to have someone so special to come and speak to Gurdon.
