Prescott splits with Scrappers part 2

Prescott's senior girls played hard and did almost everything necessary to win, with the exception of hitting their shots consistently.

The game opened with Nashville controlling the ball, but Prescott scoring first.

The two squads went up and down the court, neither being able to shoot well early on. With 5:38 left in the first, the score was tied 4-4.

Nashville's luck started changing as the missed shots rebounded to the orange-clad players regularly, almost magnetically.

Getting only one shot offensively didn't work in Prescott's favor, as the Scrapperettes led 12-10 at the end of one.

Nashville extended its lead to 27-12 late in the second half, as Prescott's shooting woes continued, and the ball kept bouncing to a Scrapperette on a missed attempt.

Halftime arrived with Nashville leading 29-16.

The third quarter turned out to be the most productive, offensively, for the Wolverettes as they scored 13 points. Unfortunately, Nashville scored 18 in the period.

The Wolverettes continued to play solid ball offensively and defensively, but found it difficult to make the ball stay in the basket.

Prescott fought back, cutting the lead to 36-29, only to sess Nashville score the final 11 points of the period.

The fourth quarter was a mirror-image of the previous three, with Prescott having its chances, but being unable to convert.

Tammy Harris and Tiffany Smith led Prescott with 12 points each.

Jessica Tollett was the game's leading scorer with 19 for Nashville. Cassandra Carey added 14.

Prescott was five of nine at the line, while Nashville hit eight of 16 free throws.

CURLEY CUBS 30

SCRAPPERS 19

Early on Prescott's Cubs had a fight on their hands, as the Scrappers fought hard for the win, only to fall short 30-19 by the end of the contest.

Nashville won the tip and scored first, for its only lead of the outing.

Prescott's junior boys flashed to the ball defensively, slapping it from Scrapper hands. However, the Cubs had problems scoring in the first period as well.

This led to a 7-4 Cub lead at the end of one, though the score could have easily been more lopsided.

The Cubs turned it up somewhat in the second quarter, though Nashville managed to tie the score with a three-pointer at the 4:21 mark. The Scrappers were held to a free throw for the rest of the period afterwards.

Prescott went on an 8-0 run to take a 15-8 lead at the break.

The Cubs outscored Nashville 8-5 in the third quarter, with action being pretty much the same as it had been in the first half.

Prescott ended the game in the final six minutes, as the Cubs shut Nashville down and poured in 17 points offensively.

The Scrappers attempted to play pressure defense, but this only allowed the Cubs to find gaps for layups.

Defensively the Cubs slapped shot attempt after shot attempt back in Nashville faces.

The Cubs hit eight of 13 free throws, while Nashville was one of eight at the line.

A.J. Lewis led all scorers with 19 points.

Caleb Jamison paced the Scrappers with six.

CUBETTES 23

SCRAPPERETTES 39

A one-point third quarter doomed the Cubettes in their debut at Little Bud.

Prescott's junior girls had played Nashville close in the first half, trailing 11-5 at the end of one, and fighting back to cut the lead to 19-16 at the half, with a surge late in the second quarter.

However, the Cubette offense took a nap during the third quarter as Prescott couldn't buy a bucket from the field, and only hit one free throw in the period.

This allowed Nashville to build a 35-17 lead, and cruise to the win, even though the Scrapperettes were outscored 6-4 in the fourth quarter.

Prescott rarely went to the line in the game, hitting one of four free throws overall. Nashville was three of nine from the stripe.

Micca Yates led Prescott's attack with 15 points.

Campbell was the game's leading scorer with 18, while White added 12 for Nashville.
