Gurdon didn't allow Prescott to get away unscathed in the first game in the new Prescott Sports Arena.

The Lady Devils posted Gurdon's lone victory of the night, but it was enough to spoil opening night for Prescott.

WOLVES 66

The Devils went to Prescott with every intent of inaugurating the new gym on a down note, and, for three quarter, looked as if they might do just that.

However, the Wolves caught fire late and pulled out the 66-59 win.

It was a typical Gurdon-Prescott game from the opening tip physical and fast.

Neither team did much scoring in the first quarter, which ended with Prescott leading 15-10.

The Devils rallied in the second period, getting it started with a 7-0 run, and ending it with a bucket at the buzzer to lead 25-23 at the break.

It was nip-and-tuck in the third quarter as well, until the Wolves went on a 12-0 run to take a 41-31 lead with 1:23 showing.

But, the Devils responded with a 7-0 run to close out the period and cut the lead to 43-38 heading into the final eight minutes.

Gurdon was caught napping at the start of the fourth, as the official handed Prescott the ball, while the Devils were meandering around the court. The end result was a break and slam, the first of four for Prescott in the quarter.

The Devils fought hard, cutting the lead to 49-43, only to have the Wolves's breakaway offense come to life and stretch the lead to 58-45 with 2:12 left.

Gurdon was called for an intentional foul with 1:37 left, putting Prescott at the line for two, both converted, and giving the Wolves the ball. This allowed Prescott to build the lead to 64-45.

It was all Gurdon for the final 1:37, though, as both benches were cleared and the Devils cut the lead to 66-59, hitting a three at the buzzer.

WOLVERETTES 47

Early on it appeared as though Prescott might be able to sweep the three games, but a strong fourth quarter quelled such thoughts as the Lady Devils posted a 54-47 win.

There was little scoring early on, especially by the Lady Devils, as they found themselves on the short end of a 7-0 score with 3:21 left in the first.

Turnovers plagued both teams, and kept the score close, 12-4, in the first.

Gurdon scored to open the second period, and cut the lead to 14-10 with 5:13 left in the half.

Prescott, though, managed to hold off the Lady Devils and led 23-17 at the half.

The Lady Devils came on strong in the second half, starting in the third quarter, as they took a 24-23 lead with 5:27 showing.

The squads swapped buckets for the rest of the third, with Prescott leading 34-33 to start the final eight minutes.

The fourth quarter belonged to the Lady Devils, as Gurdon players hit free throws down the stretch to pull away from the Wolverettes, who were forced to foul.

DEVILS 33

CUBS 36

For three quarters it was all Prescott in the opening game of the night, with the Devils rallying too late in the final quarter to pull out the win.

The Cubs were more aggressive early on, as Prescott took a 7-2 lead with 2:08 left in the first, ending it with a 12-4 advantage.

Gurdon managed to score first in the second quarter, as the teams basically traded baskets.

Halftime arrived with the Devils trailing 22-13.

The Devils began battling back in the third quarter, cutting the lead to 25-20 with 2:44 left in the period.

Prescott made an attempt to pull away, only to have the Devils stick close. Period three closed with the Cub lead down to five at 31-26.

Gurdon outscored the Cubs 7-5 in the final six minutes, but turnovers and missed shots prevented the Devils from pulling out the win.
