Harold LewisPublished Wednesday, December 12, 2001 in the Nevada County PicayuneHarold Lewis, 89, of Austin, Texas, and formerly of Temple, Texas, died in an Austin hospital Monday morning, December 3, 2001. Lewis was born to Charles Monroe Lewis and Mary Josie Tollett Lewis in Nashville, on February 8, 1913. Following his graduation from Nashville High School in 1932, he attended Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia. He married the former Helen Jordan in 1934. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with the Logan Grocery Company in Prescott for 62 years, prior to moving to Texas in 1997. He was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Prescott, where he taught the PALS Men's Sunday School Class for many years, and also served as a Deacon. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Belton. Survivors include: a daughter, Nancy Clements and her husband, Bill of Austin, Texas; three grandchildren, Michael Clements of Austin, Texas, Melissa Ligon and her husband, Billy of Belton, Texas, and Melinda McBride and her husband, Steven of Denver, Colorado; and three great-grandchildren, Trevor Ligon, Kelley Ligon and Chester Ligon, all of Belton, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Helen Jordan Lewis on April 11, 2000. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2001, at the First Baptist Church in Belton, Texas with Rev. Andy Davis officiating. Burial was in Bellwood Memorial Park in Temple.
