Clark County's Sheriff's Office has been busy of late helping stem the tide of crime.

According to a release from the CCSO, on Wednesday, Nov. 21, deputies and members of the Group 6 Narcotics Enforcement Unit searched a home at Neel's Corner.

Officers found paraphernalia and chemicals used in the manufacture of methamphetamine. All such items were confiscated, along with personal property which had been reported as being stolen to the CCSO.

Julie Howard, 40, was arrested and taken to the Clark County Jail.

According to the release, other drug paraphernalia was also found at the scene, along with suspected controlled substances.

Howard was later released by Group 6 agents pending the filing of formal charges.

On Tuesday, Nov. 27, Wonesday Brown, 20, of Amity, was arrested and charged with furnishing prohibited articles.

According to the release, the charges stemmed from an incident on Nov. 11 when detention officers found drugs concealed in something Brown had brought to the jail for another inmate.

This is a class C felony, punishable by a sentence of 3-10 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000.

Brown was released after posting bond.

Saturday, Nov. 24, deputies responded to reports of an explosive substance on Graysonia Road.

Investigation into the matter showed the item in question was a commercial blasting agent which had apparently been thrown on the side of the road by someone.

The unidentified substance was a gel, with the packaging torn off. The result was some of the gel had leaked onto the ground.

An explosives expert with the Arkansas State Police was contacted and, after having the substance described, said there was no immediate threat of an explosion, as the mixture was insensitive to shock and needed a "booster" of high-explosives to be detonated.

Nonetheless, the explosive was packaged by CCSO investigators to be disposed of by the ASP.

Sheriff Troy Tucker and deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call Sunday, Dec. 2, concerning a woman's having been sexually assaulted.

Brad Allen Meeks, 31, of Okolona, was arrested at the scene and booked at the Clark County jail on a single count of rape.

Tucker took the 50-year-old victim to Baptist Medical Center where she was treated for injuries suffered in the attack.

The investigation continues, with Meeks remaining in jail.

Rape is a class Y felony punishable with a sentence of 10-40 years or life in prison.
