Nevada tops Wolves; Lady Jays do well

Free throws made the difference as Nevada's Blue Jays edged the Curley Wolves 62-57 in a cross-county matchup.

The Wolves opened with a 17-12 lead in the first quarter, and were up 30-28 at the half.

But, the second half proved to be the difference, as the Jays rallied to take a 46-40 lead at the end of three, which was good enough to hold the Wolves off as they outscored Nevada 17-16 in the final period.

Kevin Fulks led Prescott with 21 points. Joe Stewart added 20, with Decolen Prater stroking the nylon for 12.

Jonathan House paced Nevada with 17 points. Recarto King followed with 15, while Ronald Pearson and Reco Mixon added 12 each.

Nevada was 19 of 33 from the line, while Prescott hit three of six.

Prescott's junior boys pounded the junior Blue Jays 56-25 to get the night started.

The Cubs opened with an 11-6 first quarter lead, and were up 25-8 at the half, as the Prescott defense shut Nevada's offense down.

The Cubs added another dozen to their tally in the third as they led 38-20 at the end of three.

Cole Hillary led Prescott with 13 points on the night, with Chris Hopper tossing in another 10.

Antwann Blakely led Nevada with 10.

Nevada was one of nine at the charity stripe, while Prescott hit three of nine free throws.

The Jays ran their record to 8-3 on the season by taking the sting out of Walker 65-52.

The game opened with both teams tossing in 13 points in the first quarter. The Jays, though, put on a spurt to take a 27-23 lead as the buzzer sounded ending the first half of play.

The second quarter got underway with Nevada stretching its lead to 41-35, then blew the Hornets off the court in the fourth quarter.

The Jays were led by Pearson's 23, with House adding 13 to the win.

L. Combs was the game's leading scorer with 26. M. Harris scored 14 for Walker.

The Jays shot well from the line, hitting 19 of 25. Walker hit six of 14.

The Lady Jays did their part to complete the sweep of Walker with a 35-22 win.

Neither team shot well in the opening period as Nevada took an 8-5 lead.

The second quarter was much like the first as the Lady Jays added eight to their total to make it 16-8, as they held Walker to three in the period.

The offense opened up somewhat in the third quarter as they stretched the lead to 29-18.

Amanda Daniels led Nevada with 15 points. Yolanda Gulley added 11.

K. Marshall paced Walker with eight.

The Lady Hornets were six of 19 from the line, with the Lady Jays hitting three of eight free throws.

Nevada's junior girls got the sweep underway with a 38-21 win over the Lady Hornets junior squad.

The Lady Jays jumped out to an 18-3 lead in the first quarter, and pushed it to a 30-9 halftime advantage.

Walker's juniors rallied in the second half, cutting the lead to 36-13 by the end of three.

Nevada was led by Fredrica Quarles's 14 points.

D. Green paced Walker with eight.

Nevada was eight of 12 from the line, with Walker one of three in free throws.
