Children's Week Is This Week, April 19-25Published Wednesday, April 21, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneChildren's Week is this week, April 19-25. It is an annual celebration held every April sponsored by the Arkansas Early Childhood Commission, the Division of Child Care and Early Childhood Education and the early childhood community. The purpose is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to support the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs. The first Children's Week was held in October of 1988. This week is a time to focus on the needs of young children and their families and to plan how citizens of a community, the state and the nation will better meet the needs of our young children. We know that "early years are learning years," so it is up to all of us to make them count. During the week, events will be planned in Prescott by four local child care facilities Bright Beginnings, First Presbyterian Preschool, Headstart and Three to Five School. The activities range from displayed art in local stores, special people invited to read to the children and the children's parade around the courthouse that will be April 22 at 9:30 a.m. All young children and their families are invited to take part in the local celebrations.
