Honors bestowed on county fair winnersBY AUTUMN PENNINGTONPublished Wednesday, November 14, 2001 in the Gurdon Times Clark County's Fair Association held it's annual Fair Banquet this past Monday night at the Clark County fairgrounds. The banquet is held each year to honor those showing animals and those helping with all the activities taking place during the week of the fair. The banquet was opened with Leigh Helms, this year's Clark County Rodeo Queen and talent contestant, singing "God Bless America". Jerry Clemons, Clark County Extension agent, then introduced this year's Clark County Farm Family, The Wyndal Minton Family of Gurdon. Clemons then preceded to present Wyndal Sr. and Wyndal Jr. with a plaque for their accomplishments. Mildred Welch, fair board president, then welcomed everyone in attendance and thanked members of the fair board, 4-H and FFA for preparing the dishes served at the banquet. After eating everyone enjoyed a slide show of the Minton Farm to show what is involved in their everyday activities. Special guests and this year's Clark County Tiny Miss, Delaney Mayfield, were then acknowledged. Delaney has attended all fair functions and has served Clark County well. Spencer Stuart, a former Clark County pageant winner, entertained the crowd by singing "That's Who I Am". Stacey Stone, Gurdon Future Farmers of America instructor, and Clemons then finished the program by presenting trophies, belt buckles and checks to the ones showing livestock. Those receiving one trophy for winning Grand Champion or Reserve Grand Champion were: Becky Calloway, Brian Richardson, Rusty Richardson, Preston Richardson, Christopher Richardson, Luke Leamons, John Wayne Hughes, Morgan Dillard, Zack Smith, Whitney Smith, Nicole McMichael, Taylor Clemons, Ashley Clemons, Hodge Hunter, Krista Crawley, Justin Land, Kinsey Hornsby, Lauren Cagle and Haden Key. Lynsey McKenzie of Gurdon received two trophies for her accomplishments. Ashley Webb also received two trophies. Ashli Helms brought home three trophies and the big winner was Kristin Land with six trophies. Winners of the showmanship divisions were presented with belt buckles that were purchased by several different sponsors. Brian Richardson received a buckle sponsored by Chambers Bank. Morgan Dillard's buckle was sponsored by Representative Tommy Roebuck. Ashley Webb received a buckle sponsored by Alliance Insurance and a buckle sponsored by Cool Mix Radio. Krista Crawley of Gurdon received a buckle sponsored by Rural Electric of Arkansas. Justin Hernandez received a buckle sponsored by Kreg's Restaurant in Arkadelphia. Hunter Christmas Tree Farm sponsored a buckle for Kristin Land and Firstar Bank sponsored a buckle for Ashli Helms. Each year members of the fair association talk with county agents and agricultural instructors as well as what they see throughout the fair as to which exhibitor has improved and who shows the best attitude. At the banquet those chosen receive $100 and recognition receiving the Herdsman Award. This year's swine award went to Justin Mallett. Becky Calloway was the beef winner and Jordan Haltom received the Lamb and Goat Herdsman. Kristin Land closed the banquet by singing "Angels Around Me".
