This is a busy time of year for the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce, as the holiday season arrives.

The activities will begin before the holidays hit, though, with the annual fall fashion show.

The fashion show will be held Saturday, Nov. 10, in the Potlatch Building on the Nevada County Fairgrounds, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The theme is "Fall Fashion Review," and will feature fashions from merchants in Prescott and Nevada County.

The event will start with a luncheon consisting of chicken breast with wild rice, green beans, salad, corn chowder soup, a roll, tea, coffee, and dessert, apple-pie a' la mode from Flywheel Pies.

There will be three different segments to the show, Chamber Director Mary Godwin said. The first will be holiday makeup with Beth Ward, followed by Brenda Williams giving a test on finding personal style, while the third segment will be Christmas gift ideas from retail businesses in town. All items donated for the gift ideas will be returned to the businesses after the show.

There will also be information given on nail care.

Jon Chadwell, executive director of the Prescott-Nevada County Economic Development Office, will be the master of ceremonies.

"This is to help show people what's available locally,"Godwin said. "We encourage people to shop locally, so the money will stay in Prescott."

Tickets for the fashion show are $8 each, and are available at the Chamber office or at the door.

The timing of the event, Godwin said, is to give the ladies of Prescott and Nevada County something to do while their husbands are in the deer woods hunting. Modern gun deer season opens Nov. 10.

Along with the clothes, she said, there will be jewelry, hairstyles, embroidery and other information on fashion.

However, this just gets things going for the Chamber.

December 11 is the date for Christmas on the Square in Prescott.

This popular event kicks off with the parade, followed by festivities on the Nevada County courthouse square.

The theme for this year's Christmas on the Square is, "An American Christmas."

The Chamber is also sponsoring the Best Decorated Window Contest for businesses, where the winner gets the traveling plaque for a year.

Along with this is the annual Parade of Homes Christmas Light Contest for city and county residents.

The Chamber, she said, will again have a tree at the state capital for the county. Nevada County's tree has been named the best there.

Breakfast with Santa will be a little late this year, Dec. 22. It will be held in the Potlatch Building at the Nevada County Fairgrounds. No time has been set for this event.

As a special treat, there will be a live nativity on the fairgrounds. Motorists will be able to drive through and see the story of Christmas.

The Chamber is working with local and area churches on this. The nativity has been scheduled for Dec. 14-15, from 7-9 each night.
