Wolves handle Cobras part 3By John MillerPublished Wednesday, October 17, 2001 in the Nevada County Picayune But, the officials were generous and penalized the Wolves for grabbing a facemask. Instead of having the ball and going on offense, Prescott's defense remained on the field, while the Cobras maintained possession. Fountain Lake made it to the Prescott 45 where the Cobras faced another fourth down situation. There was no call when the entire right side of the Cobra line jumped before the snap. The early start helped Wallace get a first down. The Cobras managed to get to the Prescott 29 before their luck ran out and they turned the ball over on downs with 5:55 left in the game. Intentional grounding is a five-yard penalty with loss of down. The call put Fountain Lake in a fourth down situation, with Coach Marc Davis deciding there was nothing to be lost by going for it. But, before the ball could be snapped, his team was nailed with a delay of game call and moved back to the eight. Jones took the kick at the 22 and fought to midfield before being brought down. Wallace gained 15 on a quarterback keeper on first down, then went to the air, missing on four straight passes. This gave Prescott the ball on the Wolf 35 with 1:30 to go. Martin took a knee three times to run out the clock and preserve the 30-13 win. Statistically the Cobras held the upper hand. Martin was 0-6 in passes and was intercepted once, while Wallace hit three of 13 for 46 yards and a touchdown. Both teams punted three times, Prescott for 75 yards and Fountain Lake for 82. The Wolves were penalized eight times for 46 yards, while the Cobras were flagged six times, losing 40 yards.
