Louis CalleyPublished Wednesday, October 17, 2001 in the Nevada County PicayuneLouis R. Calley, 66, of Chidester, died Tuesday at the National Park Medical Center in Hot Springs. He was a clerk at the Gurdon Post Office, a letter carrier at the Arkadelphia Post Office, an a postmaster at the Chidester post office. Calley retired October 2, 1992 after 34 years of service to the U. S. Postal Service. He was a member and chief of the Gurdon Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Chidester Volunteer Fire Department. Calley is survived by his wife, Nelda Calley of Chidester; sons, Randy Calley and wife, Betty of Sapulpa, Okla., and Jeff Calley and wife, Nana of Gurdon; daughter, Christy Culp and husband, Joe of Pasadena, Maryland; mother, Margaret Calley of Benton; brother, Richie Calley and wife, Susan of Benton; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Thursday at Proctor Funeral Home with burial in Bluff City Cemetery. Rev. James Ray Raines officiated the service. The pallbearers were Max Brown, Roland Earl Calley, Johnny Calley, Bob Calley, Gary Marshall, and Bree Calley. Honorary pallbearers are Jack Starnes, Farris Tarkington, B. B. Thomas, and L. E. Swim.
