Devils hammer Lewisville, 46-0, in homecoming winBy Marc CrawleyPublished Wednesday, October 17, 2001 in the Gurdon Times Gurdon hosted the Lewisville Red Devils Friday night at Go-Devil Stadium, posting a 46-0 homecoming win. The contest started with Eddie Fort kicking off to Lewisville with a 38-yard kick. Lewisville started its drive on its 47, but could only pick up three yards in four plays and was forced to punt to Gurdon. The Devils began offense on their own nine and used five plays to score on a touchdown run by Jake Plyler. The extra point attempt was no good, and with 7:53 left in the first quarter, the score was Gurdon 6-0. Fort kicked off to Lewisville again, and the Red Devils started offense on their 29. From there, they ran seven plays to drive to the Go-Devil 28, only to fumble the ball to Josh Utchman of Gurdon. Gurdon drove to the Lewisville 38 in seven plays before the first quarter ended. The second quarter began with the Go-Devils using two plays to set up a 15-yard touchdown run by Plyler. The two point conversion attempt was good by K.P. Meeks, and with 11:03 left in the first half, the score, was Gurdon 14, Lewisville 0. Fort kicked off again to Lewisville, and they started offense on their own 29. The Red Devils only stayed in for four plays before punt to Gurdon's 36. The Go-Devils used four plays to set up a 32-yard touchdown run by Marcell Johnson. The two point conversion to Kelvin McPeak was good and with 7:27 left in the first half, the score was Gurdon 22, Lewisville 0. Fort kicked off again to the Lewisville 33 yard line. Lewisville used 12 plays to drive to the Go-Devil 18, but then turned the ball over on downs to Gurdon. The Devils drove to the Lewisville 29 in six plays, but then time expired in the first half with the score Gurdon 22, Lewisville 0. The second half began with Lewisville kicking to the Gurdon 44 yard line. From there, Gurdon used six plays to set up a touchdown run by Meeks. The two point conversion was no good, and with 9:35 left in the third quarter, the score was Gurdon 28, Lewisville 0. Fort kicked off again, and Lewisville started offense on their own 47. The Red Devils gained only one yard in four plays and were forced to punt to Gurdon. The Devils started offense on their own 39. From there, Gurdon used five plays to set up a 32-yard touchdown run by Cevin Laster. The two point conversion was no good, and with 5:51 left in the first half the score was Gurdon 34, Lewisville 0. Fort kicked off again to the Red Devil 35 yard line. From there, Lewisville used six plays to drive to midfield, but then punted to the Gurdon 13. Gurdon could only get seven plays off before the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter began with Gurdon using one play for Fort to score on a six-yard touchdown run. The two point conversion attempt was no good, and with 11:38 left in the game, the score was Gurdon 40, Lewisville 0. Fort kicked off again to Lewisville to their own 26.line. Lewisville used 10 plays to get to Gurdon 29, where Johnson intercepted the football and return it 70 yards for a touchdown. The two point conversion was no good, and with 4:06 left in the game the score was Gurdon 46, Lewisville 0. Fort kicked off again to the Lewisville 32. The Red Devils used eight plays to drive to their own 49, but then time ran out in the game with the final score Gurdon 46, Lewisville 0. Individual statistics for Gurdon are as follows: Gurdon ran a total of 45 offensive plays for 571 yards. The Devils ran six pass plays for 64 yards, 39 run plays for 507 yards, seven touchdowns, two two-point conversions, no fumbles and no interceptions. Leading the offense was Laster with 97 yards in 11 attempts, Meeks with 132 yards in seven plays, Plyler with 35 yards in five yards, McPeak with 19 yards in two attempts, Fort with 97 yards in 10 attempts, Johnson with 143 yards in five attempts, and Tirrell Hatley with 29 yards in one attempt. Leading the defense was McPeak with 13 tackles, Fort with seven tackles, Johnson and Derrick Puckett with six tackles, Josh Uchtum and Davion Williams with five tackles, Plyler and Meeks with four tackles, Hatley with three tackles, Walter Hart, Laster, James Mosley, and Corey Welch with two tackles, and J.J. Plyler and Chris Williams both with one tackles. Lewisville ran 55 plays for 152 yards. They had six pass plays for 18 yards and 49 rushing plays for 134 yards. The Red Devils had no touchdowns, one fumble, and one interception. The Gurdon Go-Devils travel to Foreman Friday night for another conference match up.
