A 40-year-old Prescott man has been found guilty of delivery of a controlled substance.

According to court records, Curtis Brown was arrested March 6, 2001, by Prescott Police officers after a controlled drug buy was made.

Police Chief Sam Reeder and Criminal Investigator Morris Irvin met with an informant, searched the informant for drugs, then gave the person $30 to try and buy crack cocaine from Brown.

They watched as the informant went into Brown's house, coming out a few minutes later with what appeared to be one "rock" of crack. The informant went straight from Brown's house to Irvin's car and gave him the drugs.

Reeder and officer Ann Jordan watched the informant go in and come out of the house, along with taking the crack to Irvin.

Police officers started watching Brown after getting complaints from neighbors about the "heavier than usual" traffic at the residence.

The investigation led to the buy, which, in turn, led to Brown's arrest and trial.

Brown was represented by public defender David Mark Gunter, but was found guilty and sentenced to 40 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections and fined $25,000.

Delivery of a controlled substance, crack in this instance, is a class Y felony, with a sentence of 10 to 40 years or life in prison with a fine not to exceed $25,000.
