James Owen Charles, 82, of Gurdon, died Thursday, September 27, 2001, in the St. Joseph Regional Hospital in Hot Springs.

Charles was a retired employee of the Weasel Company in Detroit, Mich., a veteran of World War II and a member of the Carrie St. Church of God in Gurdon where he was a member and deacon.

He was born January 4, 1919, in Gurdon, the son of the late Nathaniel and Annie Charles of Hot Springs.

Survivors include three daughters, Thersa Kimbrough and Karen Gilliam of Springfield, Ohio and Benita Charles of New York City, N.Y.; three sisters, Ruth Ross of Springfield, Ohio, Queen Hughes of Rockford, Ill., and Wanda Crow of Gurdon; 10 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, October 4, at the Carrie St. Church of God with Rev. Ivory Curry officiating. Burial was in Rose Hedge Cemetery in Gurdon under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
