A huge thanks goes out to all volunteers who gave their time to help raise money for those in need in New York and Washington, D.C.

Mary Smith, manager of the Sonic in Gurdon, new Gurdon residents could pull together in a time of need.

She had the idea to hold a "United We Stand Rally" at the Sonic Drive-In this past Saturday. Many citizens attended the rally and everyone enjoyed themselves.

Sonic provided free drinks to those volunteering and those who donated.

By 2 p.m. Gurdon had raised $1,240. The money raised will go to the families in New York who have lost family members and those who are still helping in the recovery efforts.

Gurdon's Mayor, Clayton Franklin was on hand to greet people and make donations. Franklin said he was proud of Gurdon for their concern and efforts.

Michael Dillard, Barry Woolf and Fire Chief Jake McBride took donations in their fireman hats and boots.

Ricky Clark of the Gurdon Police Department was also on hand to help to take donations.

Jeremy Bright and Mitch Nolan represented the ambulance service and volunteered to take donations from local businesses.

Rep. Tommy Roebuck gave donations and visited with local residents.
