Gurdon Lake drawn downBY AUTUMN PENNINGTONPublished Wednesday, September 26, 2001 in the Gurdon Times Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will begin drawing down the water level of the Gurdon Lake beginning September 21. The water level will be dropped three feet to expose shallow water weeds to cold, dry winter weather. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has done this in the past to help maintain the weed levels in the lake. At one time it was believed some of the weeds were the cause of death to bald eagles and some other birds in the surrounding areas. Such weeds can also become a nuisance to area fisherman. However the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission believes the actions it is taking will help control the problem. Gurdon Lake will be refilled in early March of 2002.
