For three months Prescott and Nevada County residents could hardly remembered what rain was.

All this changed in one fell swoop as August came to an end, as the heavens opened and the rains came down.

In fact, it rained more in the last two days of August than it had all summer long.

According to Philip McAdams, the new weatherman for Prescott, the area received 7.67 inches of rain during August, almost all of it on the last two days.

Davis Benton, the meteorologist from Cale, said the south part of the county got 6.46 inches of rain, all in the last three days of August.

Benton said this brings the yearly total for the Cale area to 47.65 inches.

McAdams said the high temperature for August was 98 degrees, with the mercury hitting this point on Aug. 5.

On the other hand, the low for the month occurred on Aug. 15, 16, when the thermometer dipped to a comfortable 66 degrees.

The average daily high temperature for the month, McAdams said, was 93 degrees, while the low was 72 degrees.
