Prescott's Big Star has been bought out by the Sexton group of Searcy.

The sale became official Monday, Sept. 3, Labor Day. However, the new owners took over Sunday, Sept. 2, and closed the store for inventory purposes.

Plans, according to store manager Todd Miller, are to renovate the facility and bring back the bakery/deli.

Miller said the idea is to put the deli meats, breads, doughnuts and salads back in the bakery/deli area of the store where they belong.

This, he said, will mean the new owners will have to rebuild the frozen food section, along with the meat section. By doing this there will be more room for regular meats such as steak, hamburger, chicken and such, thereby giving customers more selection.

Selection is what it's all about, and the new owners plan to improve the variety of products offered. Miller said they will carry the same brands, just offer more different items.

In addition, new tables are being brought in for the produce section to improve the selection in this portion of the store.

However, what customers really want to hear is how will the prices compare? Miller said prices will be competitive with area grocery stores, and hopes are to get Prescott people to shop locally for their groceries.

Aside from Miller being the new manager, there will be no changes in personnel at the store.

Miller grew up in Hot Springs, and returns to Arkansas from South Carolina.

He said he's glad to be back in Arkansas and close to the Spa City, as his wife's family lives there.

Store hours will remain the same, from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. seven-days-a-week.

Miller asks patrons to be patient as the renovations are a "work in progress," but said people will be happy with the end result.
