Rotary turning 75By Autumn PenningtonPublished Wednesday, September 5, 2001 in the Gurdon Times Gurdon's Rotary Club will soon be celebrating 75 years as an organization. This coming February will mark the 75th year since Gurdon first started it's Rotary Club. Since that time Rotary has been involved in helping the community of Gurdon as much as possible. This past Thursday's Rotary guest was Carolyn Ishee, District Governor of the Rotary Club. Ishee told Gurdon Rotarians this year's theme for Rotary. "Mankind is our Business." Ishee said she did not believe there was a more proper way to explain Rotary than it is in this phrase. Ishee said she knew Gurdon had participated in Coats for Kids each year and many other campaigns to help the community out. In Ishee's home club members have fed the homeless for many years. The Rotary club in Nashville holds a telethon each year to help the children in Howard County who are less fortunate. These however are just a few ways each Rotary Club participates in the community. Rotaries focus is to gain more membership. The definition of Rotary is an organization of business people and professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standard in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. Rotary's Motto is, "Service Above Self". Anyone interested in becoming a Rotary member please contact Beth Thomas at (870) 353-4997. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
