Leonard Wayne Loomis

Leonard Wayne Loomis, 87, passed away in Tulsa, Oklahoma on August 19, 2001, after a brief battle with cancer. Wayne was born July 15, 1914, in Prescott, to parents H.A. Loomis and Kate House Loomis.

Loomis is survived by his wife of 33 years, Maxine, two step daughters, Kaye Keenan and Karel Keenan Moore, four step grandchildren Brena Baumann-Gonzalez and Brent Baumann, Martine Moore Lewis and Bill Moore, Ill., one sister Jessie Loomis and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by sisters Mildred Loomis and Fay Sutton, and brothers Roy Loomis and Sid Loomis.

Loomis was in the United States Air Force (and Army Air Corps) for 31 years and was with the NASA Manned Space Center near Houston, Texas for 11 years where he met and became friends with most of the first seven Astronauts. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1931, was stationed at Randolph Field in Texas and Langley Air Force Base in Virginia. During World War II he was rated as Expert Aerial Gunner and Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor. He served with the American Defense Command in Newfoundland. He also served in England, Northwest Africa and Guam. After World War II, he served at various Air Force bases including three years in Brazil. His last tour of duty was completed at Langley Air Force Base.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Services were held at the Shackelford Funeral Home in Prescott, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 23, 2001.

Jessie Allena Scott

Jessie Allena Scott, 87, of Monroe, Louisiana, died Sunday, August 19, 2001, at the North Monroe Hospital.

Scott was a former member of the Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church in Little Rock, First United Methodist Church in Prescott, and presently a member of the First United Methodist Church in Monroe, Louisiana.

She received her B.S. Degree from the Arkansas State University in Conway, and her M.S. Degree from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia. She taught special education for many years in the Prescott and Little Rock public schools. She conducted summer workshops for teachers at the Missouri State University. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma teachers sorority, the Prescott Garden Club, and MonAmie Newcomers Club.

Scott was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lucille Wylie; three brothers, Charles, Arch, and George Wylie; one sister Margaret Roberts, her husband, Charles Addison Scott, and her grandson, Michael David Hayes.

She is survived by her daughters: Margaret Hunter Scott Hayes and her husband George of Monroe, Louisiana and Linda Lucille Scott Bemis and her husband Ted of Derby, Kansas; grandchildren, Mahlon Scott Hayes, James Addison Bemis and his wife Erin, Nancy Gayle Bemis, Andrew Noyce Bemis, and Angela George; great-grandson, Addison Bemis; great-granddaughter, Jacqueline Hayes, and loving care giver, Charlotte Cartilage.

Services were August 22, 2001, at 11a.m. at First Methodist Church of Prescott. Bro. Jim Lenderman and Bro. See officiating.

Burial in DeAnne Cemetery under the direction of the Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott.
